Our Assessment is at the end of this term (Term 2, 2014) and will cover fractions, percentages and decimals. I have attached a practise test so you can see what you need to work on beforehand.

Equivalent Fractions
Are fractions that have the same value For example 1/2 has the same value as 2/4
Equivilant fractions are two fractions that are the same. EG:
Simplifying Fractions
Is when you reduce fractions to its simplist term (they are still equivalent too). For example 4/12 can be reduced to 1/3 by dividing both 4 and 12 by 4 (ie: there is one 4 in 4 and three 4's in 12.

Changing Fractions so they have the same denominators
If you have two fractions like 1/3 and 1/2 you can change them so the bottom numbers are the same. That makes them easier to see which is bigger and to add them. We can make both denominators 6 by multiplying 1/3 by 2 and 1/2 by 3 to get: 2/6 and 3/6. Now we can see that 1/2 is the bigger fraction and if we added them together we would get 5/6.

Adding/Subtracting fractions with different denominators:

And Improper fractions are where the numerator is bigger than the Denominator. Eg: 4/3 - Added By Charlotte :D
A mixed number is when you have a whole number and a fraction, like 1 2/3

This recipe is really close to the one I used (its for a smaller sized slice):
Otherwise this is the one I use for a large tray (the one eaten in class):
(preheat your oven at 175 degrees celscius first)
200g Butter
1cup Brown sugar
1/2 cup White sugar
2 Eggs
1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
2cups Plain flour
1 teaspoon Baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pkt Dark chocolate chips (400g)
Beat softened butter and both sugars in a medium/large bowl. Add the eggs and vanilla. Beat well.
Sift the next 3 ingredients into another bowl then and the choc chip. Mix it together then add it to the butter mixture. Stir well.
Spread evenly in a large greased pan (approx 30cm x 20cm). Bake in 175 oven for approx 45mins until its set and browned. Let stand in the pan until cool and then cut.
