You will need to know:

How to show working to demonstrate 'how' you solve equations (eg: draw a numberline, find numbers that add up to 10 etc)

You will need to demonstrate at least two different ways of solving a problem as well.

You will need to know how to solve unknown angles in a triangle (using the rule: angles in a triangle add to 180*)

You will need to know how to solve unknown angles in an isosceles triangle - where two sides, and angles are the same

You will need to know how to solve unknown angles on a straight line (using the rule: angles on a straight line add to 180*)

You will need to know how to solve unknown angles on verticle lines (using the rule: verticle angles are equal)

You will need to know how to solve unknown angles at a point (using the rule: angles at a point add to 360*)

How to measure a reflex angle (an angle larger than 180; ie: you measure the smaller angle and subtract that value from 360*)

How to find the perimeter of basic shapes (not cicles)

Tidy numbers

Where we make numbers easy to add, like multiples of 10.
Eg: 54 + 36
= 60 + 30 OR 50 + 30 + 10
= 90

Compatible numbers

Where numbers that are the same can be crossed out
Eg: 8 + 3 - 8
=3

Eg 2: 5 + 3 + 6 - 8
=8 + 6 - 8
= 6

Up over Tens

Where we add by splitting up numbers into parts to make tens

Eg: The farmer has 28 cows. She buys some more cows at the stock sale. Now she has 33 cows. How many cows did she buy?

28 + @ = 33
33= 28 + 2 + 3
@= 5

Jumping the Number Line

Jump through a tidy number on a number line to solve problems like 17+_= 91 Eg: 36+17=

a) Geri-Lee has 18 biro pens and 13 felt pens in her pencil case. How many pens does Geri-Lee have in her pencil case in total?

b) Tchanze is given $45 as a birthday gift from his Nana. He wants to buy a pair of rugby boots for $63. How much more money does he need to buy the boots?

c) Cameron has 31 merits from school; Justice has 27 merits. How many merits do Cameron and Justice have altogether?

d) Ashley collects stickers. She has 27 in her collection; her friend Jesse gives her 5 more and then her cousin gives her 3 more. On her way home she loses 8. How many does she have left?
